When a roof reaches the end of its lifespan, replacing it is the best way to ensure your property remains weatherproof and structurally sound.
A well-maintained roof is essential for protecting your home from the elements and ensuring long-term structural integrity. Over time, wear and tear can lead to leaks, damp issues, and reduced energy efficiency. That’s why replacing an ageing roof is a smart decision—it enhances protection, improves insulation, and gives you peace of mind. Recently, we carried out a full roof replacement, ensuring this home remains safe, dry, and well-insulated for years to come.
We began after HSE-approved scaffolding was set up at the front and back of the property, including handrails for added safety. This allowed for secure access while minimising disruption to the homeowner and surrounding area.
Stripping away the old roof covering wasn’t just about making way for the new—it was a crucial step in preventing hidden issues like rotting timbers and water ingress. All waste was disposed of responsibly, ensuring a tidy and hazard-free worksite.
A poorly ventilated roof can lead to condensation, damp problems, and heat loss. To counter this, we installed felt support trays and over fascia vents, allowing for better airflow and reducing the risk of mould. The breathable under-felt helps keep moisture out while allowing trapped air to escape, creating a healthier living environment.
We fitted treated roof battens to provide a strong, long-lasting framework for the new tiles. The homeowner chose grey Mendip concrete tiles, which offer excellent durability and weather resistance. The dry-fix ridge and verge systems we installed are maintenance-free, preventing future repair costs while ensuring the roof remains secure in high winds and heavy rain.
To further reinforce the roof’s integrity, we installed lead step flashings at the abutment wall, preventing water ingress. We also refurbished the chimney with fresh mortar and new lead flashings to stop leaks. A GRP secret bonding gutter and rock wool firestop were added, improving fire resistance and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
