Full Main Roof Replacement, North Shields

For this project, we completed a full roof replacement, ensuring every part of the structure was upgraded for maximum longevity and protection.

To start the project, we set up HSE-approved scaffolding around the front, back, and left gable side of the property. This ensured our team could safely and efficiently access all areas of the roof throughout the process. Once everything was in place, we carefully removed the old roof covering and disposed of it responsibly, using a skip chute or netting to keep the site clean and safe.

With the old roof removed, we turned our attention to upgrading the structure. We installed felt support trays and over-fascia vents to improve ventilation, preventing moisture build-up and extending the roof’s lifespan. A high-quality breathable under-felt was laid to protect against water ingress, and we secured pressure-treated battens across the roof to provide a strong, stable base for the new tiles.

For the new roof covering, we used durable flat Old English concrete roof tiles, carefully nailing them in place to ensure a secure and attractive finish. Alongside this, we fitted a GRP secret bonding gutter, combined with Rockwool insulation, to create a firestop at the party wall, adding an extra layer of safety.

To give the roof a maintenance-free finish, we installed a ventilated dry-fix ridge and hip system. This included concrete ridge tiles, hip trays, and dry roll-out, ensuring the roof stays secure and weatherproof for years to come. We also refurbished the main chimney, grinding out and repointing the brickwork with fresh mortar, and installing new lead flashings to protect against leaks.

Once the roofing work was complete, we gave the finishing touches to the property by thoroughly cleaning the fascia and guttering, leaving everything looking fresh and well-maintained. Finally, we removed all waste from the site, ensuring the home was left in pristine condition.
