What Are Coping Stones & Why Do They Matter?

Coping stones sit along the top of a wall, acting as a protective cap. They prevent water from seeping into the structure, which could lead to damp problems, weakened brickwork, and costly repairs.

Over time, exposure to the elements can cause the mortar holding these stones in place to crack and loosen, making repairs essential to maintain the integrity of the roof and walls.

For this project, our team focused on restoring the coping stones at the front of the property. Here’s what we did:

• Installed New Lead Flashings – We supplied and fitted new lead flashings over the coping stones at the peaks of the front of the property. These were securely screwed and plugged, ensuring a long-lasting, weather-resistant finish.
• Removed Loose Mortar – Over time, mortar can deteriorate and loosen, compromising the stability of the coping stones. We carefully removed the loose mortar from underneath the coping stones at the front.
• Repointed with Fresh Mortar – Once the old mortar was cleared, we repointed the area with a fresh mortar mix, restoring the strength and durability of the coping stones.
